Zombieleaks Imagines a World That Survives a Zombie Outbreak
What if the outbreak happens and we win? What might the world look like?
By Chris Morse
Paul Macdonald’s Zombieleaks is a zombie apocalypse story, only without the apocalypse. The book, which is also available in its entirety as a free online reading experience, is told from a number of different unique perspectives, but what they all have in common is that the story is told after the fact. It begs the question, what does the surviving side of this ordeal look like?
The premise is simple: the zombie outbreak happened and we won, but only now are the details of this event coming to light in the form of these “leaks,” which are written as a data dump of interviews aiming to expose the truth behind what happened. Little is known about the specifics of the outbreak or how the living came out the other side victorious, but Zombieleaks aims to reveal everything.
It’s hard to deny the author’s assertion that the zombie subgenre is getting a little bit stale these days, whether you look at The Walking Dead’s dwindling viewership or the time that has passed since George A. Romero’s visionary tales graced the big screen. Even classics like Shaun of the Dead are turning 15 years old. Either way, we are almost always up for seeing what fresh ideas can be cooked up by new blood and that is exactly what we have here. Read the official description for the book below.
[blockquote-0]Zombieleaks is written by a self-described super-fan of zombies who comes into the scene with a unique perspective on how such an outbreak would begin and what would happen next. In fact, the world this book is written in is not unlike ours. Zombies exist in pop culture there, as does the universe of George A. Romero’s imagination. In fact, those details are essential to the story.
As previously mentioned, Zombieleaks in its entirety is available online, but if you really like what you see, you can purchase your very own copy from Amazon. As always, we encourage you, the reader, to support independent horror creators whenever possible and this book feels like a great fit for that idea.
