It would appear the rumors surrounding the next chapter in the Resident Evil series are looking to be true, with the announcement of Resident Evil Village at today’s PlayStation 5 reveal event. Speculation on the eighth entry in the series initially stemmed from a series of leaks from anonymous members of the Resident Evil Ambassador program, leading this then-unconfirmed information to be picked up by various news outlets and other sources. In any case, while this game isn’t releasing until next year, you can catch a glimpse of it today in the embedded video above!
Resident Evil Village takes place a few years after the events of the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and we will once again assume the role of Ethan Winters in a brand-new storyline. After trying to find peace from the nightmares they suffered at the Baker Ranch, Ethan and his wife Mia settle down to make a new life for themselves in a new location. However, the horrors of the past come creeping back with the unexpected arrival of Chris Redfield, who sets off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan looking for answers in a mysterious, once peaceful snow-capped village.
Not much else is known regarding the title just yet, but like its predecessor, the game will be played in first-person perspective. There are many new characters seen in this trailer who have not previously appeared in the series and those details remain under wraps, at least for now. Based on this early preview, it looks as though Ethan will battle against a locale infested with zombie-werewolf hybrids, vicious dogs, and the deadly town villagers themselves.
Resident Evil Village is anticipated to release sometime in 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. As always, you can depend on Dead Entertainment for all the latest news on the Resident Evil franchise and the upcoming next chapter in the series!
