The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln Teases Season 8 Finale

The AMC series' leading man hints at finality and some "unusual" elements for the upcoming episode.

With just two more episodes of The Walking Dead's 8th season remaining, the all-out war with the Saviors is no doubt finally nearing its conclusion. Season 8 showrunner Scott Gimple has previously spoken about the finale, acknowledging that changes from the source material should definitely be expected, given the differing direction of a few major story elements, such as the fate of Carl Grimes. On the other hand, he did give us a little bit of reassurance that they were focused on capturing the same feeling in wrapping up this story arc as series creator Robert Kirkman did in the original comic.

Star Andrew Lincoln has joined the conversation and offered his take to EW, giving his own preview for what to expect in the upcoming season finale. For starters, it looks like the season's final episode will have a lot going on. "I would say this is a smorgasbord," Lincoln said. "I think you’ve got everything in this one. It’s quite an unusual structure, but it’s very emotional, I hope, because that’s what I felt [while filming]. It’s epic." Unusual seems to be the running theme here for the leading actor, who went on to describe shooting the war's final conflict as well as how conclusively it might end, while still leaving the door open for what's to come, such as a time jump and eventually meeting the Whisperers, perhaps?

With the season finale of The Walking Dead just under two weeks away, we won't have to wait much longer to see how these teases translate to the screen. The penultimate episode will air next Sunday on April 8th while you can tune in to a back-to-back airing of both this finale and the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on April 15th. We think we're ready to watch all of this play out. How about you?
