Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Bly Manor received its very first casting details today as Victoria Pedretti has officially come on board for the new season in the leading role. According to Deadline, the actress will play the part of the governess, Dani, the central character in the novel the story is based upon. The second installment of the Netflix horror anthology will premiere sometime in 2020.

This casting is particularly interesting because Pedretti played a major part in The Haunting of Hill House, starring as the adult version of Nell Crain, which indicates that Flanagan and the streaming platform are not shying away from using returning stars for all-new roles. American Horror Story fans should be very familiar with that style, although Hill House brought with it a particular premium with respect to the quality of its horror.

Pedretti will also soon be appearing in another Netflix series, You, as the stalker/murderer main character’s new obsession in Season 2. Given these back-to-back roles, one can only figure that the actress is quickly becoming a rising star and we can expect to see much more of her in the years ahead.

The new story will be based on Henry James’ 1898 horror novella, The Turn of the Screw, which tells the story of a governess who becomes convinced that the grounds of her remote estate are haunted as she raises her two children there. Much like with The Haunting of Hill House, we can expect this adaptation of the source material to be somewhat loose, but we have no doubt it will be every bit as gripping and terrifying as Hill House was.

The Haunting of Bly Manor will premiere sometime in 2020, but no further details are available at this time. Be sure to stay tuned to Dead Entertainment for all the latest news and updates on the Haunting series in the coming weeks and months.
