Mexican horror feature Tigers Are Not Afraid is set to finally hit theaters next month and Shudder has debuted the official trailer to get you ready for it. You may recall the streaming platform acquired the rights back in April and we are only now beginning to see more from that end. This is a film that has been on the convention circuit for some time now, winning several awards and generating a great deal of praise from renowned creatives like Guillermo del Toro, Neil Gaiman, and Stephen King.
Tigers Are Not Afraid is a dark fairy tale about five children trying to survive the horrific violence of the Mexican cartels and modern-day drug wars of this era. The story centers around young Estrella, who is granted three wishes that quickly reveal an unfortunate twist. As she flees into the streets, she comes across a boy named Shine and joins a group of orphans who sleep on rooftops, realizing along the way that the past and the dead never truly leave us behind.
The film is written and directed by Issa López and stars Paolo Lara and Juan Ramón López. The cast also includes with Hanssel Casillas, Ianis Guerrero, Tenoch Huerta, and Rodrigo Cortes. It first premiered at Austin’s Fantastic Fest, where is won "Best Director" honors before hitting various other festivals.
Shudder will be debuting Tigers Are Not Afraid later this year after a theater run next month. Stay tuned to Dead Entertainment for updates whenever they become available.
